The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%
Box Office: 100 million USD
My Rating: 10/10
Description: Katie Mitchell (Abbi Jacobson) is a quirky and socially awkward artist. As an aspiring filmmaker, she is the complete opposite of her outdoorsy father Rick (Danny McBride). When Katie is accepted into film school in California, the rest of her family decides to drive her there on a road trip as one last adventure together. Originally horrified, she begrudgingly agrees, but the family's road trip soon turns south as a robot apocalypse begins.
My Thoughts: I'm not really sure I can talk about this movie without gushing about how incredible it is. The soundtrack is awesome, the characters are painfully relatable, and the animation is absolutely beautiful. There are very few perfect films in the world, but between the pacing, dialogue and character development, it hits the nail right on the head. I watched it for the first time as a pessimistic teenager who thought I would hate it because it was a cartoon (a cartoon about robots, to be exact), but I was shocked at how fantastic it was. Pretty much everyone I've ever met who's watched it said they adored it. All in all, the film is hilarious and relatable and awfully sweet, and you should 100% watch it immediately. Trust me, you won't regret it.
Best Line: "We are humans. For example, we consume food in the traditional human manner. Observe."
