Wild Mountain Thyme (2020)

Rotten Tomatoes: 25%

Box Office: 1.3 million USD

My Rating: 3/10

Description: Anthony's (Jamie Dornan) and Rosemary's (Emily Blunt) families live next door to each other on their respective farms in Ireland. As a child, Anthony always felt different than everyone else. Rosemary had been in love with him forever, and when she was a child after she was left heartbroken, her father told her she was a swan, which she took to heart even after he passed away. With Anthony's mother dead, his father (Christopher Walken) wants to sell the family farm to his American cousin (Jon Hamm) because he believes his son will never marry and produce heirs. Anthony and Rosemary must confess their love to each other before it's too late.

My Thoughts: Christopher Walken's terrible Irish accent might pale in comparison to Hayden Christensen's attempt at an Italian one, but it's still one of the most unnatural noises on planet Earth. Again, what are people like him and Emily Blunt doing in a film like this one? Most of the movie is quite boring until the huge plot twist at the end. It tries to foreshadow the twist several times earlier on, but it wouldn't matter how much they hinted at it because no one would possibly guess it in a million years. At one point, to rehearse what he is going to say to say to Rosemary, Anthony practices proposing to a donkey. The town gossiper sees him and starts a rumour that he's some freak who's in love with a donkey, and that's not even the craziest part of the whole movie! The twist comes at a part that's meant to be the climax, but it doesn't really have that effect because you can barely understand what anyone's trying to say. When I watched it, I was practically falling asleep, but then the twist came and I was left positively speechless. I guarantee you, whatever you think it is, you're wrong.

*MAJOR SPOILER*

Best Line: "You think you're a bee! I mean, you think you're a bee!"
